A “Rookie” is getting a second chance on the diamond.
20th Century Fox is developing a remake of the 1993 family baseball comedy Rookie of the Year. Daniel Stern directed the film about a 12-year old boy who after a freak accident developed a major-league pitching arm, leading him to live the dream of playing for his hometown team, the Chicago Cubs. The film was a launchpad for star Thomas Ian Nicholas, who later gained major fame as Kevin in the American Pie franchise.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are in final talks to script the film with Gregor to direct the film. Bob Harper, who produced the original film, will return as producer on the remake.
More as this develops.
