Gong, Li to Join Live-Action “Mulan”

The live action Mulan is about to get two more veterans after the recent casting of powerhouse Donnie Yen.

It was announced that Gong Li (left), star of many films from auteur Zhang Yimou, will play the villain of the film, who is a powerful witch while the semi-retired Jet Li is in final talks to play the Emperor of China.

It must be of note that Disney is going a bit of a different route with the live action version of their 1998 animated film. Gong and Li would join the likes of Crystal Liu in the titular role with Yen playing Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung.

Niki Caro is directing the film, which is scheduled for a March 2020 release from Disney.
