We conclude our interview with Ward Horton, the co-star of Julius Ramsay‘s directorial debut Midnighters. If you missed part one of this interview, click here to view it. The film will be released this Friday in theaters, VOD, and Digital HD from IFC Midnight.

What attracted you to join the cast of the movie?
Well, first and foremost, it was reading the script and realizing that they wanted me to read for the antagonist. I was like, “Wow, I’m gonna read more into this”, and meet the people who are putting this together because I don’t get cast as the bad guy very often. This would be an opportunity that would be very exciting because it would allow me to spread my wings a little more. I would get to step outside of my comfort zone and be a little more creative into what I was doing as an actor, so that was the first thing.

And then, I sat down with the Ramsay Brothers (Julius, Alston, and Burke) and they were a good group of guys who have a good background of work with this genre. They made me pretty excited about getting involved so once they were happy with what I was doing, I jumped on-board.

How would you describe your character of Smith?
(Laughs) He’s a different breed. He’s a guy who is very determined to “right a wrong” in his mind, and get what is his. I think he steps into a situation that he thinks is going to be relatively easy with such bravado and confidence. Then, the script flips on him and he realizes he stepped into a buzzsaw with the character of Lindsay. He no longer has the upper hand in the situation and he doesn’t think he will get it back until the very end. So without giving too much away, there is a nice little arc to the story and he struggles to maintain control of the situation.

Midnighters makes its nationwide debut on March 2 courtesy of IFC Midnight. Thank you so much for talking about the film and I hope the film does well at the festival. I’ll be looking forward to an official release.
Thank you so much. That means a lot to me!
