A 90’s Nickelodeon series will be getting the film treatment.
Gary Dauberman (right), one of the co-writers of the hit adaptation of Stephen King‘s It, has been hired to pen a screenplay of the 1990’s Nickelodeon series Are You Afraid of the Dark?
The original series, which ran from 1992-1996 with a one-season reboot in 1999, revolved around scary tales as told at a campfire by a group of teens known as the Midnight Society. The tone of the series was similar to the Goosebumps series, which itself was made into a feature film adaptation in 2016. Some of the famous members of the Midnight Society would go on to become future stars in their own rights, including JoAnna Garcia-Swisher, Rachel Blanchard, Elisha Cuthbert, and Jay Baruchel. The series was created by D.J. McHale and Ned Kandel.
Matt Kaplan will be producing Are You Afraid of the Dark?, which is now in development. More as this develops.
