Gambit has finally found a helmer and a date has been officially set!

Gore Verbinski, whose successful films include the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films and the more recent A Cure for Wellness, has signed on to direct the X-Men spinoff Gambit, which has been in development for nearly a decade.

While usually a long-gesturing film can result in the titular role having to be miscast, that is not the case as Channing Tatum is still committed to play Remy LeBeau, a New Orleans-born mutant with the power of manipulating kinetic energy as well as being an expert in martial arts.

The film has also scored an official release date of February 14, 2019. X-Men film series producer Simon Kinberg had mentioned that the previous delays were to find the right concept for the character and now with Verbinski at the helm and Tatum being patient long enough, the film is definitely happening.

More as this develops.
