The long awaited battle of the heavyweights, Godzilla and King Kong, will have a helmer in Adam Wingard (left).
Wingard gained some fame with his horror film hit You’re Next and Blair Witch (a sequel of sorts to The Blair Witch Project) and has helmed the upcoming remake of the Japanese manga Death Note, which will premiere later this year on Netflix.
The battle for supremacy between the Big-G and Kong is part of a small universe that began with 2014’s Godzilla, which was met with both critical acclaim and fan appeal thanks in part to director Gareth Edwards. That was followed up by the recently released Kong: Skull Island, which was helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and also did quite well at the box office.
Big-G goes another round in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which will be directed by Michael Dougherty and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Ken Watanabe, who reprises his role from the 2014 film.
Godzilla vs. Kong has been set for a release sometime in 2020.
