Two upcoming and heavily hyped action films have looked to have release dates locked in for this fall. One is a sequel with a great cast and the other is an indie action film with a stellar ensemble group. So this fall, get ready to get your kicks…literally!!!
First, we have the sequel Kickboxer: Retaliation, which unlike the original 1989-1995 saga, will bring back the central character of Kurt Sloane, played by Alain Moussi (above left). In the sequel, set a year after the events of Kickboxer: Vengeance, MMA champion Kurt is back to Thailand and stuck in prison, where he is forced to face off against a 6’8″ 400-pound monster named Mongkut, played by Hafthor Bjornsson (above right).
However, when Kurt declines to fight Mongkut, he becomes a target. He soon learns that his own skill will not be enough to defeat the monsters and alongside his teacher Durand (Jean-Claude Van Damme), Kurt will have a new set of teachers within prison training him to refine his skills. The newcomers include boxing legend Mike Tyson, MMA fighters Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Fabricio Werdum, and soccer star Ronaldinho.
Sara Malakul Lane, Christopher Lambert, Jessica Jann, James Bennett, Rico Verhoeven, Renato Sobral, and Wanderlei Silva co-star in the sequel, which according to director Dimitri Logothetis, will be unleashed in September.
Next up comes Ultimate Justice, the second film from Silent Partners, founded by Mike Leeder and Ruediger W. Kummerle, who made a very huge impact with their debut film, One Million K(l)icks.
In Ultimate Justice, a group of former elite soldiers led by Gus von Behren, played by the great Mark Dacascos (above) reunite when they must avenge the family of one of their own. The ensemble cast include Matthias Hues, Mike Moeller (who also served as the film’s fight choreographer), Mike Leeder, Wolfgang Riehm, Yazmeen Baker, and Brandon Rhea.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment via Vision Films has picked up the North American rights to the film and have locked down a DVD release date of October 3.
