After unleashing the first two films featuring the superhero team The Avengers, director Joss Whedon (right) is joining the DC Extended Universe.

Warner Brothers has tapped Whedon to write, produce, and direct a standalone Batgirl movie. The character, who is the alter ego of Barbara Gordon, was played by the late Yvonne Craig in the final season of the 1960’s Batman series while a new version of the character, Barbara Wilson, the niece of Alfred, was played by Alicia Silverstone, in the absymal 1997 film Batman and Robin.

The DCEU is also developing Gotham City Sirens, which will feature Harley Quinn, to be reprised by Margot Robbie, teaming up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy. David Ayer is tackling the supervillain team-up film. Quinn is also set to return in another developing film, Suicide Squad 2.
