The Big-G made it known…he’s back home and he’s taking no prisoners! Okay, so his latest film has major awards at the 40th Japan Academy Prize Awards, the equivalent of the recently aired Academy Awards.

Godzilla: Resurgence, directed by the duo of Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, won the top award for Best Picture as well as six more of its eleven nominations. Anno and Higuchi won the Best Director award.

The biggest shocker came with the Best Animated Film Award. The expected winner, Your Name, was actually beaten out by In This Corner of the World. Aoi Miyazaki won Best Actress for her role in Rage. Koichi Sato took home the Best Actor award for his film 64. Sully, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Clint Eastwood, took home the Best Foreign Film Award.

Legendary auteur Seijun Suzuki, who passed away in February, received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

Congratulations to all the winners at the 40th Japan Academy Prize.
