As mentioned in a recent post, the reboot of the 1989 martial arts classic Kickboxer will make its way to DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday from RLJ Entertainment.
We will not have to get into the film here, but if you want to see the WFG review on the film, click right here.
The film itself is presented well on Blu-Ray, bringing a sense of both crispness and grittiness to the picture as if we are watching a late 80’s/early 90’s martial arts film. It looks great.
So aside from the film, what else is on the Blu-Ray of the film? There is a behind the scenes featurette in which there are interviews with actors Alain Moussi, Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Sara Malakul Lane, and Sam Medina (who gives his interview as if he is still in character as Crawford, this time around praising both Moussi and the fights). The cast praise Moussi on his talents and Moussi gives praise to the original film’s star Jean-Claude Van Damme, who goes full circle with his role of Master Durand. There are also interviews with Dimitri Logothetis, the co-writer and producer who made it clear that the film is not intended to live up to the original, but make it a reboot with some tweaking to the original story. Producer Rob Hickmanalso praised the original film and gave his thoughts on the reboot as well.
The only other extra is a photo gallery of still shots from the film, most of which everyone has seen online, but still isn’t all too bad.
So the Blu-Ray is not too bad, the film is presented well. The featurette is not bad either, thanks to Sam Medina’s interview especially. The photo gallery is pretty much a throwaway that is just there, but nonetheless okay.
In any case, if you haven’t seen Kickboxer: Vengeance, check out the film on DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday from RLJ Entertainment. Check out your local stores for availability.
WFG RATING: C+ (Blu-Ray)
