Ben Affleck surprised many with his portrayal of the Caped Crusader in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice despite the dark tone of the film.

It had been recently announced that Affleck will not only reprise the role in Justice League, but he will follow it up with his first solo film as Batman. In addition, Affleck has been working with DC Comics executive Geoff Johns on the script and he is also going to be directing the film.

Affleck recently surprised fans even more when an Instagram video revealed that the villain for Affleck’s solo film, which as of now will be called The Batman (but according to Affleck could possibly change upon its release), would be Deathstroke. Joe Mangianello is playing the assassin in the film opposite Affleck.

Affleck revealed to Collider why he chose Deathstroke as the villain for The Batman:

“He’s a great villain because — I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”

In any case, look for Affleck to return as Batman in Justice League in 2017 and The Batman sometime in 2018 or 2019.
