While it is official that Michael Keaton will play the main villain of Adrian Toombes, the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it has been revealed that a secondary villain has been established in the character of Phineas Mason, the Tinkerer.

The character, who made his debut in 1963 with The Amazing Spider-Man #2, is a supergenius who crafts gadgets from common household products. Details in the new film reveal that Mason once worked for Tony Stark and after being fired, Mason decides to let Stark know what a mistake he made. The Tinkerer eventually will assist in creating gear for the Vulture.

Michael Chernus will play The Tinkerer in the Jon Watts-directed film. Chernus is best known for his role as Piper Chapman’s brother Cal on the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

Chernus joins Keaton, Zendaya Coleman, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Kenneth Choi, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Holland as Peter Parker.

Shooting is continuing for a July 7, 2017 release date from Marvel Studios.
