In what can be considered some awesome news, Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studios have made a blockbuster announcement. The 1986 animated feature film Transformers: The Movie will be unleashed on Blu-Ray in September to commemorate the film’s 30th anniversary.
The plot involves the finale of the Cybertronian Wars, which pitted the Autobots against the Decepticons, which claimed the lives of the factions’ leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron. While Optimus Prime has elder Autobot Ultra Magnus take hold of the Matrix, the source of power that can “light the darkest hour”, Megatron is reborn via a devouring planet named Unicron as Galvatron. The war rages on until the unlikeliest of Autobots finds his true destiny as the new leader as the Autobots must stop both Unicron and the new Decepticons.
A major voice cast includes Peter Cullen, Leonard Nimoy, Judd Nelson, Eric Idle, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta, Robert Stack, and in his final film performance, Orson Welles as Unicron.
Shout! Factory plans to release Transformers: The Movie on Blu-Ray on September 13.
