While we are three years away from seeing Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel hitting the screens, some recent updates have emerged in the wake of a script already being completed by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LaFauve.

First up, a possible frontrunner may be hitting early talks in the role and sorry, it is not UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, who had expressed interest in the role. According to sources, the frontrunner for the role is this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Actress, Brie Larson (above right). However, it is unclear how much truth there is to the rumor, with Marvel planning to have the role cast before a director is chosen…

And speaking of directors, two directors are apparently being looked at in terms of possibly helming this very film. They are Jennifer Kent (The Badabook) and Niki Caro (Whale Rider). However, at this time, like the news involving Larson, nothing is concrete.

In any case, Captain Marvel is set for a March 8, 2019 release date from Marvel Studios.
