Former champion boxer Mike Tyson has been making waves lately with appearances in franchise films from Scary Movie 5 to The Hangover films. After making quite an impression with his role in the Hong Kong hit Ip Man 3, Tyson has just signed on to appear in another franchise film.
That film? Kickboxer: Retaliation, which is currently in production in Los Angeles. The film, written and directed by Dimitri Logothesis, is the sequel to the soon-to-be released Kickboxer: Vengeance and stars Alain Moussi, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, and UFC fighter Paige VanZant.
Tyson’s character will be a convict who is forced to fight while behind bars. Logothesis, who is a martial artist himself, is extremely excited about not only Tyson’s casting, but other fighters as well:
“Words cannot express my excitement for this second installment. The passion I have for this genre just keeps getting bigger and the cast we have assembled is phenomenal. Expect to see spectacular, non-stop, action-packed martial arts from real fighters.”
While production has begun on Kickboxer: Retaliation, we still await Kickboxer: Vengeance, due for release in theaters this summer from RLJ Entertainment.
