In the wake of having just seen Captain America: Civil War, Dark Horizons has brought up some updates in terms of casting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably Phase Three. So, here we go:
- After negotiations originally broke down, it looks like Michael Keaton may in fact be back as the trades are now reporting he is in final negotiations to play the villain opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It is still unknown which villain Keaton would play if he signs, but chances are it may be Adrian Toombes, aka The Vulture. Holland, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya Coleman, and Robert Downey Jr. will appear in the film, soon to begin production.
- Thor: Ragnarok just pulled off some awesome casting in the forms of Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum. Urban, soon to reprise his role as Dr. “Bones” McCoy in Star Trek Beyond, will play the villainous Asgardian Scurge while Goldblum will play the cosmic game playing being known as the Grandmaster. They join Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Cate Blanchett as the villainous Hela. Thompson and Blanchett were cast a few months ago, but the characters were finally revealed in an official press junket this week. Taika Waititi will direct the film, set to begin production soon.
- Ryan Coogler may have two major talents to join Chadwick Boseman for the upcoming Black Panther film. Lupita Nyong’o is in talks for the role of T’Challa’s love interest (although in the comics, he is married to X-Men member Storm, but looks more like we will have another character in mind). The other cast member? None other than Michael B. Jordan, Coogler’s “Golden Boy” with their successful collaborations in Fruitvale Station and Creed. Coogler is currently finishing the screenplay along with Joe Robert Cole with production to begin next year for a 2018 release.
And in the immortal words of Stan Lee…Excelsior!
