Since the announcement of a reboot of the live action adaptation of Tomb Raider, many have wondered who would be playing the heroic Lara Croft in the new adventure? Rumors had swirled that Megan Fox or Daisy Ridley would be taking on the role of the iconic adventurer. However, last night, those rumors was officially put to bed as another name has signed on the dotted line.
Academy Award winning actress Alicia Vikander, soon to be seen in the upcoming Jason Bourne, will be taking on the role of Lara Croft in the new film. Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug is on board to direct the film for MGM and GK films.
Another Academy Award winning actress, Angelina Jolie, played the iconic Croft in two Paramount films in 2001 and 2003.
Vikander is best known for her roles in the sci-fi film Ex-Machina and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. as well as her Best Supporting Actress role as Gerda Wegener, the wife of Eddie Redmayne‘s Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.
The new Tomb Raider is slated to begin production possibly sometime this year or early next year.
