Hello true believers (Yes, Had to do the good ol’ Stan Lee reference)! As it has been confirmed, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will be collaborating on the new solo Spider-Man film, which unlike its predecesstors, will not be another tiresome origin story.
After rumors have popped up of Sony and Marvel registering URLs, Marvel took to Twitter yesterday to formally announce the title of the new Spidey film: Spider-Man: Homecoming. The title not only refers to the fact that we will have a 16-year old Parker but according to Sony President Tom Rothman, “Peter is trying to find his way home.” The script is said to have a sort of John Hughes high school-angst angle mixed in with the Marvel superhero.
Tom Holland plays the 16-year old Peter Parker, who makes his debut as Spider-Man in the soon-to-be released Captain America: Civil War. Co-starring in the film are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May Parker and Zendaya as a character named “Michelle”. Jon Watts will be directing the film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for a July 7, 2017 release from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
