As production goes underway on the threequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, some casting news have revealed some changes.
Jet Li, originally slated to play a villain in the film, has departed production with reasons unknown. However, a replacement has been found in the form of Donnie Yen, who after a few footsteps in Hollywood in the early 2000’s, is gearing up on a return to Hollywood.
Yen will play a villain alongside Tony Jaa, who is geared up to play the main villain Xiang opposite the returning Vin Diesel, who returns to the titular role after being replaced by Ice Cube‘s Darius Stone in xXx: State of the Union.
This comes in the news that Paramount Pictures will be distributing the threequel worldwide as well as the synopsis being revealed:
“Xander Cage coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.”
Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Conor McGregor, and Samuel L. Jackson co-star in the D.J. Caruso helmed threequel, set for release in 2017.
