After negotiations, it was formally announced yesterday that Ryan Coogler, who directed Fruitvale Station and the hit spin-off film Creed will take on a new hero for his next film: Marvel’s King of Wakanda, Black Panther.
Chadwick Boseman will play the Marvel superhero first in Captain America: Civil War this May then he will have his solo film. After negotiations with the likes of Ava DuVernay and F. Gary Gray broke down, Coogler was the next name and he is now the man who will bring T’Challa’s story to life. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had this to say:
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family, The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
Black Panther will be released on February 16, 2018.
