Earlier this year, it was announced that there would be a sequel to the 1993 John Woo film Hard Target, in which Woo would be serving as a producer. Roel Reine, the Dutch filmmaker who is practically the “go to guy” for the recent wave of direct to DVD action films, will be behind the cameras for the sequel.

Now comes word that the sequel is going ahead as one of the powerhouse action stars of today’s generation, Scott Adkins, will be taking the lead role. The above photo, from Adkins’ Facebook page, shows the star with the film’s stunt coordinator, Kawee “Seng” Sirikhanareut. The film is set in the Southeast Asian jungles, where Adkins becomes the target of a deadly game. Other casting is unknown at this time.

Nevertheless, Hard Target 2 is scheduled for a straight to DVD release in early 2016, which could mean 2016 could be the year of Adkins with Eliminators, Jarhead III: The Siege, Criminal, and Boyka: Undisputed IV all due for release next year.
