Sixteen years after the original film won the hearts of martial arts film fans with its exciting story combined with some of the best wuxia pian action in recent times, the long awaited sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will finally be unleashed on February 8,2016 in Mainland China and on February 15,2016 in the U.S. via two outlets: IMAX and Netflix.

The sequel is based on the final book in Wang Dulu’s Iron-Crane Pentalogy book series, Iron Knight, Silver VaseCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the fourth book in the series.

Returning from the original film is Michelle Yeoh, who will reprise her role as Yu Shu Lien. Donnie Yen is amongst the new cast members as the new male lead, Silver Wolf. Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr. plays Tiefang. Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) plays Hades Dai. Eugenia Yuan, the daughter of original CTHD villain Cheng Pei-Pei, plays the Blind Enchantress. Martial artist and actress Juju Chan plays Silver Dart Shi. Tomorrow, When the War Began‘s Chris Pang plays Flaying Blade. The Rebel‘s Veronica Ngo plays Mantis, and Shanghai Noon‘s Roger Yuan plays Iron Crow.

Yuen Woo-Ping, the famous action choreographer of the Matrix films and the original CTHD, served as both director and action choreographer of the sequel. The screenplay was written by John Fusco, the man who brought us Netflix’s Marco Polo series and wrote the 2008 Jackie Chan-Jet Li team-up The Forbidden Kingdom.

The film marks the first time in 21 years that Yeoh, Yen, and Yuen Woo-Ping all worked together. The last film these three collaborated on was the 1994 martial arts action film Wing Chun, in which Yeoh played the titular character who uses the style that would be made famous by Yip Man and his most famous protege, Bruce Lee. Donnie Yen played Yip in a trilogy of films, in which the third will be released this Christmas with him taking on Mike Tyson. Yuen Woo-Ping was the action choreographer on Ip Man 3.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend will be unleashed on February 8 in China followed by a simultaneous IMAX and Netflix release in the United States on February 15.
