A while back, filmmaker Kevin Smith had announced that he had written a sequel to his 1995 film Mallrats, which revolved around a day at a New Jersey mall, and the two heartbroken friends who attempt to get their girlfriends back amidst a whole world of chaos at the mall.

Smith has announced yesterday on Facebook that production on the sequel, Mallbrats, will begin production in January at the Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania. Financing is coming through StarStream and most of the original cast is expected to return in their signature roles. Will Brody (Jason Lee) still be the ever-loving comic book fanboy? Having married at the end of the original, will T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brandi (Claire Forlani) still have a blissful marriage? Will Willem (Ethan Suplee) finally see that damn sailboat? And what will come of that quiet yet scafry security guard LaFours (Sven Ole-Thorsen)?

Those questions may be answered in Mallbrats, set for a late 2016 release date from Kevin Smith.
